An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced Orthoptist to join our dynamic and friendly team of 6.0 WTE Orthoptists and 4.2 WTE Optometrists as Lead Clinical Tutor in the ophthalmology department based at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.

The post holder will be expected to lead on the department’s orthoptic undergraduate teaching programme and assist in coordination of medical student placements for students from Barts and The London School of Medicine.

The Ophthalmology department at the Royal London Hospital is a growing department of 9 consultant ophthalmologists covering various sub-specialties. Our orthoptic team supports the large paediatric ophthalmology and neuro-ophthalmology subspecialties, and the post holder will have scope to assist in development of these services. The Royal London is also one of two national centres for the treatment of Retinoblastoma.

There is also scope for the appointed Orthoptist to be involved in extended role ophthalmology clinics, such as medical retina, glaucoma and cataract.
