Specialist Orthoptist (AfC Band 6) at East and North Herts NHS Trust, Full time 37.5 hours, 1 year fixed contract

Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and experienced orthoptist to take on the role of Specialist Orthoptist (AfC Band 6) at East and North Herts NHS Trust. The post will be based at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage but the successful candidate will also be required to provide outpatient clinics at the New QE2 Hospital in Welwyn Garden City and Hertford County Hospital in Hertford and also at our community health centres within the county.

We also welcome applications from newly qualified Orthoptists.

The Ophthalmology service is currently provided by 5 consultant ophthalmologists, specialising in the areas of Paediatric Ophthalmology, Medical retina, Glaucoma, Oculoplastics and Vitreoretinal surgery. The Allied Health Team is comprised of six orthoptists, six optometrists, ophthalmic nurses and ophthalmic imaging specialists.

The Trust is actively supporting the development of extended role working for Allied Health Professionals in line with the Royal College of Ophthalmology’s Common Clinical Competencies Framework; the successful candidate would be instrumental in aiding the development of these roles within the orthoptic service.
